RALEIGH, N.C. - Dealing with injuries and suspensions, NC State fell short at Louisville on Saturday, 30-18. Down eight late in the third quarter, an apparent Wolfpack defensive TD was overturned and Louisville kicked a field goal three plays later to increase their lead.
The Pack kept the score close late in the fourth, when David J. Grinnage caught his second TD of the day with 2:21 left. Down five at 23-18, the Pack went for two but the pass was incomplete. The onside kick was recovered by Louisville, who ran three straight times and scored a 46-yard TD with 44 seconds left.
WOLFPACK DRIVE OF THE GAME
10 plays, 61 yard TD drive in the first quarter.
With 5:28 left in the first quarter, QB Jacoby Brissett found TE David J. Grinnage for a 16-yard touchdown for the Pack's first score of the day. After it appeared the Pack was stopped for a 3 & out, Louisville was called for a roughing the punter giving NC State the first down. The TD was the first offensive TD scored against the Cardinals in 18 quarters - dating back to September 13. The Pack missed the extra point, making the score 7-6 Louisville.
MOMENT OF THE GAME
With 1:37 left in 3rd quarter, freshman linebacker Airius Moore scooped what appeared to be a Louisville fumble and returned it 76-yards into the end zone - which would of closed the Louisville lead to 17-15 with the Pack about to try a two-point conversion. However upon review, the replay officials determined Louisville QB Will Gardner's knee was on the ground prior to him losing control of the ball.
Louisville kept possession and three plays later converted a 38-yard field goal to extend its lead to 20-9.
