NC State Volleyball Falls to No. 11 UNC Chapel Hill

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-16) decision to No. 11 UNC Chapel Hill Friday evening inside Reynolds Coliseum. It was the Wolfpack's first home loss of the season and it also marked the first time in head coach Bryan Bunn's tenure that the squad played on the center court.
NC State falls to 12-6 on the season and 1-5 in ACC play, while the Tar Heels improve to 14-2 and 5-1 in conference play.
Bunn's Beat
Opening Statement...
"We didn't play well tonight. They served tougher than we did and handled the ball better and we didn't respond well."
On UNC's blocking ability...
"In practice this week, we worked on hitting the ball high and around the blocks and when we did that we were successful. They're a big team."
Match Rewind
- The Pack opened the first set by winning six of the first eight points to take a 6-2 lead. UNC countered with seven unanswered to take the lead and won the frame, 25-15.
- In the second set, the Wolfpack recorded its highest set hitting percentage of the night with a .220 clip. Freshman Kaitlyn Kearney and redshirt sophomore Morgan Cormier each put down four kills in the frame to lead the squad.
- With the score tied at seven, North Carolina used a 7-3 run to take a 14-10 lead forcing an NC State timeout. State countered with a 7-3 run of its own later in the set, but Tar Heels held on for a 25-21 set win.
- The two teams traded points early in the third set before UNC scored five consecutive points to take a 12-8 lead. The Tar Heels went on to win the frame, 25-16.
Worth Noting
- Kearney, a freshman from Frisco, Texas, led the Wolfpack's offensive attack with seven kills, while recording a total of five blocks. Cormier and senior Dariyan Hopper each chipped in with six kills.
- Defensively, the Wolfpack had three players with double-digit digs, as Rachel Eppley and Alston Kearns chipped in with 10 apiece.
- Earning the start at the setter position, junior Tanna Aljoe handed out 24 assists along with 10 digs to record her third double-double of the year.

The Pack will host Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 19 inside the friendly confines of Reynolds Coliseum. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
