Wolfpack Volleyball Falls at No. 4 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The NC State women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-23) decision against the fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles Sunday afternoon in Tully Gym. It was the first time that the Wolfpack has been swept in a match since Nov. 24, 2013 at Pittsburgh.
NC State falls to 12-5 on the season and 1-4 in ACC play, while Florida State remains unbeaten with a record of 17-0 and 6-0 mark in conference action.
Match Rewind
- The Wolfpack recorded a team hitting percentage of .232, while the Seminoles were able to hit .364 as a team.
- In the first set, NC State jumped out to a 7-3 lead before Florida State responded with a 4-0 run to tie the score at seven. The Pack regained the lead 18-16 following five consecutive points. Five unanswered points late in the set by FSU proved to be the difference as it won the set, 25-21.
- Redshirt sophomore Morgan Cormier paced the Wolfpack in the frame with six kills on seven swings for an attacking percentage of .857.
- Alesha Wilson, a senior from Keller, Texas, caught fire in the second set putting down five kills on five attempts for a perfect 1.000 attacking percentage in the frame. NC State led early in the frame, 5-2, but Florida State responded to take the lead and win the set, 25-16.
- The Wolfpack fought off match point five different times in the third set, as the squad pulled the score to 24-23 before the Seminoles won the set, 25-23. With Florida State leading 24-19, NC State showed no signs of quit as it continued to run its offense and play great defense resulting in two kills and two blocks during the 5-0 run.
Key Performers
- Cormier led the Wolfpack offensively with 10 kills in the match to go along with a .412 hitting percentage. Wilson finished the contest with nine kills and a .438 attacking percentage, while freshman Kaitlyn Kearney chipped in with seven kills.
- Junior Tanna Aljoe earned the start at the setter position and dished out a match high 29 assists.
Up Next
After a four-match road swing, NC State will return to action at home on Friday, Oct. 17 when it takes on UNC-Chapel Hill. The match is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Following the volleyball match, NC State men’s basketball will host its Throwback with the Pack season kickoff event in Reynolds Coliseum.
