Norenius, McGuiness Advance at NCTC

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Sophomore Simon Norenius and freshman Parker McGuiness of the NC State men’s tennis team advanced to the third round in singles and doubles on the opening day of the 2014 National Collegiate Tennis Classic.
Norenius, who had a first-round bye, defeated Ciaran Fitzgerald of San Diego in singles, 6-5, 6-1, while McGuiness was also granted a first-round bye and edged TCU’s Rodolpho Bustamante in a decisive third set, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
In doubles, Norenius and McGuiness defeated San Diego’s Geoffrey Fosso and Uros Petronijevic in the second round, 6-3.
Action will resume at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic on Saturday, while the 35th-ranked men’s tennis squad opens the dual season against UNC Greensboro and NC Central on Saturday, Jan. 18 inside the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
