RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team will travel to Athens, Ga., for the Bulldog Classic this Friday-Sunday, Sept. 20-22 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The four-team tournament, hosted by the University of Georgia, will feature singles and doubles play in a round robin format.
The Wolfpack will bring nine players to Athens, including senior Joelle Kissell who is ranked No. 45 in the ITA’s preseason singles rankings.
“We are looking forward to starting our season in Athens,” Wolfpack head coach Hans Olsen said. “It’s a pretty unique situation because we would also like to end our season in Athens as well.”
Olsen is referring to the 2014 NCAA Championships which take place in May 2014 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens. Along with Kissell, the Wolfpack brings back six players from last season’s squad. State also welcomes two new freshmen to the team in 2013.
“We are going to use this tournament to figure out our best singles players and doubles pairings,” Olsen said.
NC State begins play at 10 a.m. on Friday, with doubles versus Georgia. Following that match, the Pack will play doubles against Old Dominion before closing the day out with singles versus South Florida. Matches will continue Saturday as State faces doubles competition versus Old Dominion and then singles play against South Florida. The Wolfpack will close out tournament play on Sunday with singles competition against the host Bulldogs.
