EUGENE, Ore. – Senior jumper Karimah Shepherd capped her collegiate career with her fourth All-America award, while redshirt junior Nathaniel Williams earned his second-career honor in the men’s discus on the third day of competition at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon Friday afternoon.
Shepherd, who earned first-team All-America recognition with her seventh-place performance in the women’s long jump on Wednesday, used a lifetime-best mark in Friday’s triple jump – a 43’ 1.00” (13.13”) leap – to finish in 13th place and collect second-team All-America honors.
The Chesapeake, Va., native closes her final season as a dual All-American in the women’s long jump and triple jump in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, and is the only female jumper in NC State history to accomplish the feat.
Williams, who finished in 13th place in the men’s discus at last season’s outdoor championships, placed 16th in Friday’s final event with a 181’ 11.00” (55.44m) throw to earn back-to-back, second-team All-America honors.
The Newport, N.C., native is the first-ever two-time All-American in the men’s discus throw in program history.
Three Wolfpack athletes will compete on the final day of the 2013 NCAA Championships on Saturday, June 8. Redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor will compete in the women’s shot put at 4 p.m. (ET), before redshirt senior Ryan Hill will race in the men’s 1,500-meter final at 5:31 p.m. Redshirt junior Andrew Colley will close the day in the men’s 5,000-meter run, which is scheduled to begin at 6:23 p.m.
Television coverage of Saturday's action will begin at 5 p.m. (ET) on ESPNU and ESPN3.
