URBANA, Ill. - The NC State men's tennis doubles duo of senior Dave Thomson and junior Sean Weber saw their season come to an end against Mississippi State's Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Doubles Championship, 7-6 (5), 6-1, Thursday evening at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center.
Angus and Stropp, ranked 13th by the ITA, jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the first set. The Bulldog duo then extended its lead to 4-1 before Thomson and Weber held serve to make it, 5-2.
The 18th-ranked Wolfpack duo countered by winning three consecutive games to tie the first set at five all. The teams split the next two games to even the first set at six games apiece and force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Angus and Stropp emerged victorious, 7-5, to win the first set, 7-6 (5).
The Bulldog tandem started the second set by winning the first four games to take a 4-0 advantage, before the Pack held serve to make it, 4-1. Angus and Stropp won the next two games to clinch the second set, 6-1.
Thomson and Weber end the 2012-13 season with a final record of 19-12. The tandem became the first Wolfpack doubles team to earn a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship since 2008.
