Pack Softball Moves Up In Poll and NCAA, ACC Statistics

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State softball’s record-breaking weekend in a three-game, regular-season-finale sweep of Boston College has both the team and several players rising to the top of the NCAA Division I softball statistics.

It’s also getting the Pack (30-18-1 overall, 13-7 ACC) noticed by the panel that votes on the weekly Top 25 polls, as head coach Shawn Rychcik’s initial team received two votes in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll, released on Tuesday.

Sophomore shortstop Renada Davis, with four home runs in her last four games, moved into a tie with Longwood’s Megan Daltzell for the national lead with 24 homers on the season. Davis is in sole possession of first place with 0.49 home runs per game.

Her .781 slugging percentage is ranked 40^th among all Division I hitters.

Sophomore righthander pitcher Emily Weiman is now tied for third nationally and first in the ACC with 28 victories with reigning ACC Pitcher of the Year Lori Spingola of North Carolina and California’s Jolene Henderson.

She is also tied for 13^th nationally with 244 strikeouts on the season.

Weiman’s six shutouts, including a no-hitter against Charlotte, rank 31^st among all Division I pitchers.

As a team, the Wolfpack is third in the nation at 1.69 home runs per game, just behind Arizona State (1.71) and Texas A&M (1.70). It’s 83 total homers is fourth behind Texas A&M (85) and Arizona and Georgia (84).

The team’s .518 slugging percentage is 19^th in the nation.

State is off this weekend, while several other ACC teams complete their regular-season. The Pack, currently in second place in the league standings, will be back in action at the ACC Tournament from May 9-11 in Tallahassee, Fla.
