Hopkins Advances to NCAA Championships on Platform Dive

RESULTS 
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - NC State senior diver Hannah Hopkins clinched a spot in the 2013 NCAA Championships with a first-place finish on the platform dive Wednesday at the Diving Zone B Qualifying Meet at the University of Tennessee.
Hopkins ranked second at the end of the preliminary round with a score of 295.60, but overtook the leader in the finals to win the event with a combined score of 593.35 in the finals. The final score earned her the title by more than 30 points from the second-place finisher (557.30).
The Greensboro, N.C., native will make her second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships after competing on the platform dive at last year's championships. Hopkins placed seventh in 2012, earning All-America honors and will look to do the same in 2013.
On the men's side, senior Hudson Rains and freshman Charles Retter took part in the platform dive. Retter tallied a score of 320.70, good for seventh in the prelims, while Rains notched the 10th-best mark with a 296.00. Retter ended with a combined score of 606.45 and Rains concluded with a 586.70.
Hopkins will join fellow diver Rachel Mumma and swimmers Riki Bonnema, Kristin Connors, Hannah Freyman, Zina Grogg, Allison Hendren, Marifrances Henley and Lauren Poli at the 2013 Women's NCAA Championships held Mar. 21-23 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
