Grogg, McCurdy Earn ACC Swimmer of the Week Accolades

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Zina Grogg and sophomore Christian McCurdy of the NC State swimming & diving team were each named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) swimmers of the week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
Grogg, a native of Moon Township, Pa., captured ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honors after posting four first-place finishes against Duke and Miami (women only) on Friday. The senior finished with a time of 55:02 in the 100 backstroke to meet the time standard for an NCAA ‘B’ cut. She also recorded her second ‘B’ cut of the meet in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.96. Grogg’s time in the 100 butterfly currently ranks as the eighth fastest time in the country.
A native of Irwin, Pa., McCurdy finished with the top time in each of the four events he swam last weekend and was able to meet the time standard for two NCAA ‘B’ cuts to garner ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honors. On Friday against Duke, McCurdy earned his first ‘B’ cut of the day with a time of 1:47.44 in the 200 butterfly, as that time currently ranks 13th fastest in the country. The sophomore finished Friday’s meet with his second ‘B’ cut of the day in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:54.06. In Saturday’s meet against UNC Wilmington, McCurdy finished with the top time in the 1000 (9:26.24) and 500 (4:31.74) freestyle events, respectively.
The Wolfpack will return to competition at the Nike Cup Invitational in nearby Chapel Hill, N.C., from Nov. 21-23.
