Wolfpack Wraps Up Day One at Tennessee Fall Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The NC State women’s tennis wrapped up play on day one of the Tennessee Fall Invite on Friday at the Goodfriend Tennis Center. The Wolfpack squared off first against Ohio State in doubles action, and then later competed against host Tennessee in singles.
State freshman Liza Fieldsend earned a hard-fought, three-set victory over Tennessee’s Tiffany Tavares, taking the match, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 to earn the Wolfpack’s lone singles victory on the afternoon. In other singles action, Pack senior Joelle Kissell was defeated by Joanna Henderson of Tennessee in a tight-knit contest, 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles play, the NC State duo of Nicole Martinez and Christy Sipes fell to Sandy Niehaus and Grâinne O'Neill of Ohio State, 8-6, while Elisha Hande and Kissell dropped their doubles match to Ohio State's Gabriella DeSantis and Miho Kowase, 8-5. The Wolfpack continues play tomorrow versus Kentucky in singles starting at 10 a.m., before taking on Tennessee in doubles at 1 p.m.
