RALEIGH, N.C. – Boston University struck for three second half goals in earning a 3-1 victory over the NC State women’s soccer team Thursday night from Dail Soccer Field.
A scoreless first half went with very little scoring chances from either club. The second half was a whole different story.
Boston University (4-5-1) opened the scoring spree at the 50:17 mark when Megan McGoldrick scored on a penalty kick after an NC State defender was whistled for a take down inside the box.
The Wolfpack answered minutes later when Jennie Krauser scored her team-tying fourth goal of the season at 54:49. Meagan Proper started the scoring play with a cross that went directly to Caroline Gentry, who shielded the Terrier goalie just enough allowing Krauser to tap in the equalizer.
Back-and-forth action ensued for the next few minutes, and BU was the team that was able to find the back of the net next. Ana Cuffia corralled a long cross from Kai Miller and punched in a shot from close range into the top of the goal net at 66:33.
NC State (5-6) had its fate sealed at 88:11 when Madison Clemens scored to make it 3-1.
Red-shirt sophomore goal keeper Victoria Hopkins made five saves, while BU split an equal 45 minutes of playing time between Andrea Green and Alyssa Parisi. Both made two saves, and Parisi earned the win by playing the second half.
NC State hosts Miami next Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be available on ESPN3.
