MARION, Iowa - Former NC State golfer Lauren Doughtie won a sudden death playoff at the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge on the LPGA's Symetra Tour, Sunday.
Doughtie banked $16,500 with her first professional win by firing a 4-under par 69 over the final round and sinking a 15-foot birdie putt on the first hole of sudden death.
The Suffolk, Va. native climbs into the top-10 on the Symetra Tour's money list after beginning the weekend at No. 88. Doughtie says she plans on playing in next weekends Tate and Lyle Players Championship in Decatur, Ill.
Doughtie graduated from NC State in 2009 after an illustrious collegiate career that saw her become the first Wolfpack women's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Championship (in 2008 after a program record T-5 finish at the NCAA Central Regional). She also represents the only two-time All-ACC honoree in Pack women's golf history.
