PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - NC State sophomore Albin Choi shot a 6-over 77 on Wednesday and is tied for 59th at the 2012 NCAA Championship at Riviera Country Club.
Choi began the round with birdie at No. 1 for the second-straight round and sat tied for seventh through four holes at 1-under for the championship.
But a double bogey at No. 5, and a late triple bogey at the 487-yard par 4 15th derailed his round. He stands at 6-over 148 through 36 holes.
Choi did receive some good news earlier in the day, when the Toronto, Ontario, native was selected to the Division I PING All-Region team. It is the second-straight season he has garnered the award from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Illinois’ Thomas Pieters leads the field at 5-under 137, two shots clear of first-round leader Anton Arboleda (UCLA) and Tyler McCumber of Florida.
Alabama leads the team competition by four shots over UCLA. Florida State is third, while Oklahoma and North Florida are tied for fourth.
The final round of the 54-hole stroke-play tournament takes place Thursday at the famed Riviera Country Club that measures 7,292 yards and is a par-71 layout.
