RALEIGH, N.C. - Wolfpack softball will host in-state foe East Carolina (15-20, 3-6 CUSA) Wednesday, April 4 for a non-conference doubleheader. Action in game one begins at 5 p.m., and the second game of the twinbill is slated for 7 p.m. at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium.
The afternoon will serve as a community service opportunity for Pack softball and all fans, supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake County. The Boys and Girls Clubs provide opportunities for underprivileged kids to learn and play in a safe environment. The clubs prize meaningful mentor relationships between participants and adults in the community.
The Boys and Girls Club is in great need of supplies, including (but not limited to) paint and brushes, easels and other art supplies, ping pong balls, basketballs, soccer balls and all types of sports equipment, calculators, notebook and copy paper, pencils and all school supplies, office supplies, cleaning supplies and snacks. There will be donation boxes at the entrance of the Dail Stadium gates, and all fans are encouraged to participate.
State looks to rebound after a tough weekend against Georgia Tech, when the Pack was swept by the Yellow Jackets in a three-game ACC series. The Pirates, though, were also swept in weekend action, falling to UCF in Orlando, Fla.
Freshman Renada Davis leads NC State (15-22, 0-8 ACC) offensively this season with a .307 batting average. Bethaney Wells boasts the best power numbers on the squad, with six home runs and 29 RBI. Her 29 RBI sit as the second-highest total in the ACC so far this season. Also, Landon Warren's nine doubles are tops among all conference hitters in 2012.
Jill Jelnick's .343 batting average leads ECU so far this season, and Suzanne Riggs' six home runs and 23 are RBI also tops for the Pirates. Having lost their two top pitchers from last year in Toni Paisley and Faith Sutton, the majority of the duties in the circle have been split by Sarah Christian (3.63 ERA) and Courtney Smith (5.14 ERA) for ECU.
Following Wednesday's action, State hits the field again Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 for a three-game ACC set versus Boston College. On Friday, the Pack will take on the Eagles in a doubleheader at 5 and 7 p.m. The series will conclude at noon on Saturday at Dail Softball Stadium.
