Former NC State men's golf standout Carl Pettersson notched his second-runner up finish of the year on the PGA TOUR at the Shell Houston Open in Humble, Texas this past weekend.
He finished at 16-under 273.
Pettersson's final-round 71 left him one shot behind Hunter Mahan, who became the first two-time champion on tour in 2012.
Pettersson left an 18-foot birdie putt short on the 488-yard 18th, the hardest hole on the course, with a pond running down the length of the fairway on the left. Pettersson needed a win to earn a trip to Augusta to play in the Master's this week.
Former Wolfpacker Tim Clark will be included in the field this week at the Master's.
The second-place finish earned the former All-American a check for $648,000 and 300 FedExCup Points. He jumped 28 spots in the standings and is now 15th in the regular-season points race.
Pettersson has already made $1.1 million this season in just eight events. He also finished runner-up at the season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii.
He has four career PGA TOUR victories, four runner-up placements and has made $16.7 million in a career that began back in 2000.
