Wolfpack softball will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. this weekend to take on No. 24 North Carolina (29-10, 6-3 ACC) in a three-game ACC set. The first pitch in the series is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, and game two of the doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. Action concludes Sunday, April 15 at noon.
NC State (21-22, 3-8 ACC) enters the weekend riding a six-game winning streak. The Pack swept Boston College a week ago and took two games from Campbell on Wednesday.
Bethaney Wells is in the midst of an impressive offensive season for the Wolfpack. She leads the ACC in many categories, including home runs (10), RBI (37), slugging percentage (.633), and total bases (76). Freshman Renada Davis leads the Pack with a .342 batting average, a mark that sits as the fourth best in the league.
In the circle, Emily Weiman and Morgan Peeler have shouldered the majority of the pitching responsibility. Weiman, a Pasadena, Md. native, has put together a good freshman season with 181 strikeouts and two shutouts. Peeler's 111.2 innings and two shutouts put her on pace to smash her career highs in both categories.
The Tar Heels, too, have a winning streak on the line this weekend. The squad enters Saturday's twinbill having won five-straight contests. Last week, North Carolina swept Virginia in ACC play, and then proceeded to take a midweek doubleheader from UNC-Greensboro. The Tar Heels are led offensively by Amy Nece, who boasts a league-best .368 batting average. Lori Spingola leads Carolina in the circle with 21 victories in the 2012 season.
The Wolfpack owns the series advantage against UNC, having gone 15-13 against the Tar Heels since the program began in 2004.
Following this weekend's action, Pack softball returns to Dail Stadium on Wednesday, April 18 to take on Elon at 6 p.m.
