Hopkins Qualifies For NCAAs

AUBURN, Ala. - Junior Hannah Hopkins placed fourth in the platform diving event at the NCAA Zone B Qualifying meet, to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships.
Hopkins becomes the first NC State diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Kristin Davies did so in 2009. Davies also qualfied on the platform, and took home the national title in that event.
Hopkins finished the preliminaries in third with a mark of 278.80 to qualify to the finals, before taking fourth place in the finals with a combined score of 542.00.
Teammate Kirstyn Shepler also qualified for the finals, placing ninth in the preliminaries with a mark of 239.45, and posting a score of 483.20, overall, to take eighth.
On the men's side, Ryan Smith placed 17th on the platform in the preliminaries, with his score of 283.60.
The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will also be held at Auburn, beginning Thurs., March 15.
