NC State softball fell to UAB this morning in Lexington, Ky. in the third game of the University of Kentucky Tournament by a score of 3-1.
Emily Weiman took the loss for State, surrendering three runs off of seven hits in the contest.
Bethaney Wells was responsible for the Pack's only run of the day, a solo home run in the second inning.
UAB got on the board first, posting one run off of three hits in the bottom of the first inning.
Wells tied up the ball game with one swing of the bat in the second, belting her fifth home run of the 2012 season.
Kirsty Grant led off the third with a base hit, then advanced to second on a UAB wild pitch. The Wolfpack offense, however, was unable to score her, and heading into the bottom of the frame, the game remained tied at one.
In the sixth inning, the Pack executed an excellent relay to throw a UK runner out at home and preserve the 1-1 tie. The next batter, though, knocked a two-run home run, giving the Blazers a 3-1 lead.
Caitlin Dent opened the seventh by drawing a walk, but the Wolfpack offense was unable to drive her in.
State softball returns to action later today at 5 p.m. versus the No. 3 seed in the tournament, which is yet to be determined.
