TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - NC State softball dropped its first two Atlantic Coast Conference games today in Tallahassee, Fla. to Florida State.
The Pack fell 7-1 in the first half of the doubleheader, then dropped an 8-0 game in the second contest.
Emily Weiman took the second loss for State, surrendering two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.
Renada Davis posted the Wolfpack's only hit of the ball game, a single in the second inning.
Davis led off the top of the second with a base hit and stole second to move into scoring position. The Wolfpack offense, though, was unable to score her and the game remained scoreless heading into the bottom half of the frame.
Florida State's Courtney Senas drew a walk then advanced to third on a base hit by Maddie O'Brien with two outs in the second. O'Brien then attempted to catch the Pack off guard by taking second, but Weiman threw to Davis, who tagged out the runner to end the inning before a run could cross the plate. After two full innings, the game remained scoreless.
The Seminoles took a 1-0 lead in the third inning off of one hit, a two-out double by Shayla Jackson, then extended that advantage to 4-0 in the fourth inning off of three hits and one Pack error.
In the bottom of the fifth, FSU notched four runs, ending the game on a walk-off home run.
In game one of the twinbill, the Pack fell 7-1 to Florida State. The Seminoles took advantage of four NC State errors, three in the sixth inning in the contest.
Morgan Peeler took the loss for NC State in game one. In six innings of work, she surrendered four earned runs on six hits.
Davis, Scout Albertson and Leah Jones all went 1-for-3 for NC State offensively in the contest.
Florida State got on the board in the top of the first, notching two singles to take a 1-0 lead over the Pack.
Davis led off the second for State with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bethaney Wells. She then came around to score on a base hit by Albertson, which pulled the Wolfpack even with Florida State at 1-1.
The Seminoles notched four runs off of three hits and one Wolfpack error in the bottom of the third, taking a 5-1 lead over the Wolfpack.
After allowing three earned runs in the third inning, Peeler responded in the fourth by retiring the Seminoles in order.
Florida State put two more runs on the board in the sixth inning, capitalizing on three Pack errors and one hit to take a 7-1 lead.
State softball returns to action tomorrow for the final game of its series with Florida State at noon in Tallahassee, Fla.
