NC State Wins 400-Medley Relay At ACCs

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - The NC State men took first place in the 400-medley relay at the ACC Championships on Friday night, swimming a school record time and NCAA B cut of 3:10.90. Barrett Miesfeld, Ian Bishop, Jonathan Boffa and Ivan Kopas all earned All-ACC honors with the win.
"Tonight was fun," said head coach Braden Holloway. "Coming off a solid morning, our men stormed back tongiht. Congrats to our 400-medley relay for earning the title tonight.
"What a great moment for our program."
Friday night's win was the first relay win at the ACC Championships since 2006 for the Wolfpack, when it took gold in the 200-medley relay. The last time NC State won the 400-medley relay at the ACC Championships was in 1992.
Kopas' lead-off split time in the 100 backstroke (48.14), as part of the 400-medley relay, was good for the second-best time in school history. Kopas took sixth in the 200 backstroke in 48.16.
Michael Camper swam the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 400 individual medley preliminaries (3:54.12), good for an NCAA B cut. Camper placed 15th in the finals. Taylor Harris swam the 10th-best mark in the same event, with his time of 3:57.16.
Miesfeld placed fourth in the finals of the 100 butterfly, topping his own school record with an NCAA B cut of 47.32.
Brandon Kingston, Boffa and David Williams all qualified for the finals of the 200 freestyle. Kingston swam the second-best time in school history (1:36.91) in the preliminaries, and took home a fourth place finish in the finals. Boffa placed sixth in the finals, while Williams took seventh. Williams' time in the preliminaries (1:37.04) was good for the fifth-best all-time.
Bishop won the second heat of the 100 breaststroke finals, swimming a time of 54.60.
NC State will return to action tomorrow for the final day of the ACC Championships. The Wolfpack is currently in fifth place.
