RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State will send a full contingent of men’s and women’s athletes to the Gene Anderson Invitational indoor track meet in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday, to be held at the UNC’s Eddie Smith Field House.
The day-long event, the Wolfpack’s final tune-up prior to next weekend’s ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston, is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the field events. Running events will begin at noon.
Among the men competing in the jumps are three-time All-ACC high jumper Kris Kornegay-Gober, freshman Rueben Malone, junior Kwame Boatwright and senior Emmanuel Davis.
The Wolfpack’s trio of football players – Tobais Palmer, C.J. Wilson and Bryan Underwood – will compete in the short sprints with junior Daniel Fretz, redshirt freshman Dorian Crawford and freshmen Martin DeFrancesco and Kevin Permenter in the long sprints.
For the Wolfpack women, multiple All-ACC performer Lawanda Henry will compete in the shot put and weight throw, along with redshirt freshmen Tremanisha Taylor and Kortney Pearce.
Jumpers Karimah Shepherd and Jazueline Daniels will attempt to improve on their top performances of the season, as will high jumpers Danielle Adams and Elizabeth Shuman.
Junior Paige Eley leads the women’s sprinters and senior Taylor Graham leads the hurdlers.
Most of the Wolfpack’s distance runners, including record-setting junior Ryan Hill of Hickory, N.C., will not compete this weekend, as they gear up for the ACC championship meet, which begins next Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Track Center at Roxbury Community College in Boston.
