Diving Competes at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – The NC State diving team competed in its first meet of the 2012 campaign on Friday, against conference rival Duke. The competition was informal, as no team scores were awarded. The men competed on both the 1-meter and 3-meter, with three dives from each making up their total score, while women competed only on the 3-meter.
Freshman Ryan Smith took second place to lead to Wolfpack men, finishing with a combined score of 338.10. Junior Hudson Rains took fifth with a mark of 306.43.
Junior Hannah Hopkins took first place on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 330.375, while freshman Rachel Mumma took second with 319.20 points. Mumma’s score qualified her for the NCAA Diving Zones.

NC State swimming and diving will return to action Jan. 14, in Atlanta, Ga. The Wolfpack will compete against ACC foes Georgia Tech and Florida State.
