Raleigh, N.C. - After sitting through more than a two-hour rain delay, the NC State men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season by downing VMI at Dail Soccer Field Monday night, 2-0. The Wolfpack (1-0-1) has now pitched a shutout in its first two games of the season, and head coach Kelly Findley earned his first win at NC State.
NC State jumped on the scoreboard in the 16th minute. Redshirt-sophomore Nazmi Albadawi slotted a pass into freshman Ollie Kelly who used a couple of quick dribbles, and slotted the ball into the back of the net at the 15:48 mark.
VMI nearly evened the contest in the 29th minute when Jacob MacIntyre's shot hit off the post.
The Pack added an insurance goal in the 69th minute, as freshman Simon Cox headed in a Michael Smith corner kick at the 68:42 mark.
NC State outshot VMI 19-4 on for the game, and Pack keeper Fabian Otte notched one save to record his second straight shout.
The Pack will return to action this weekend with a pair of games against top-10 foes at the Duke/Nike Classic. Friday night, NC State will play No. 9 SMU, and Sunday afternoon the Pack faces No. 8 UC Santa Barbara.
