Sutton Advances At US Amateur Match Play

Erin, Wisc. - Junior Mitchell Sutton of the NC State men's golf team disposed of Australia's Daniel Nisbet in the first round of Match Play at the 111th U.S. Amateur at Erin Hills Country Club on Thursday morning.
Sutton, seeded 41st, clinched the match with a par at the 17th hole that gave him a 2 up lead and the victory.
Sutton took a 1 up lead with a birdie at the par-4 fifth hole. Nisbet squared the match at the 10th hole, before Sutton took back the lead for good with another birdie 3 at the 11th.
The London, Ontario, native will now go head-to-head with 2010 NCAA Champion Scott Langley, who played collegiately at Illinois. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
Sutton qualified for match play after scoring 2-under 140 over 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. He opened with a 1-under 71 at Erin Hills on Monday, and followed that up with a 1-under 69 at Blue Mound Golf & Country Club.
