RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball head coach Lisa Navas announced the addition of Lisa Norris as Wolfpack pitching coach today. Norris comes to NC State following a year-long stint in the same position at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where she helped lead the Islanders pitching staff to incredible improvement in just one season.
"I am very excited to add Lisa to our staff," says Navas. "She had a remarkable season at Corpus Christi last year, and I believe she is going to be a great addition to our staff. She has great experience, having already been a successful pitching coach, professional player and ACC pitcher."
Norris, a Snellville Ga., native, has spent the past two summers competing with the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch league in Akron, Ohio. In 2010, she was named Diamond Sports NPF Pitcher of the Year after leading the NPF in wins (14), complete games (16), shutouts (four) and innings pitched (137.2). That season, Norris ranked second in the league in both strikeouts (126), and ERA (1.73) during the regular season.
"I'm very excited that Coach Navas has given me this coaching opportunity at such a great university and softball program," says Norris. ""I'm so happy to be part of the ACC once again, and I'm looking forward to great season and all the new experiences that come from working at NC State."
As a NPF rookie in 2009, she led the league with 12 wins and also tossed a perfect game in her first outing for the Racers.
A 2009 graduate of North Carolina, Norris was a true workhorse for the Tar Heel pitching staff throughout her four years in Chapel Hill. Her 78 career wins ranks third all-time at North Carolina, while her 808 strikeouts is second-best in Tar Heel history. As a senior, Norris was named first team All-Southeast Region and All-ACC.
"It will be great to have someone on our staff that knows the rigors of the ACC and demands of the schedule firsthand," says Navas. "I know that Lisa has a strong competitive spirit that will mean a great deal to our program. We are very excited for her to begin working with our pitchers."
Norris will begin working with the NC State pitching staff immediately.
