RALEIGH, N.C. -
NC State alum Cullen Jones, a 2006 NCAA national champion and 2008 U.S. Olympic gold medalist, will represent the USA at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, July 24-31. Jones will participate in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly.
Jones will get started in the 50 butterfly prelims this Sunday, July 24, later taking to the pool for the 50 freestyle prelims next Friday, July 29. Finals are typically held the evening following the prelims.
Jones, who competes with SwimMAC based out of Charlotte, won a swim-off against teammate Josh Schneider for the last spot as the two posted identical qualifying times of 21.97s at the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships. He enters the races with the 16th fastest time in the world.
