RALEIGH, N.C. - Softball head coach Lisa Navas announced today the signing of two additional members to the 2011 recruiting class. Kirsten Grant and Sara Lippard each signed a National Letter of Intent to join the NC State program in the fall of 2011.
Grant, an Oakville, Ontario, Canada native, spent her freshman campaign at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, Fla. While competing for the Eagles, she collected 51 starts, mostly at catcher.
Offensively, she posted a .341 batting average, notching six doubles and 19 RBI, all while knocking four home runs. Behind the plate, Grant collected 202 putouts, but only committed three errors, good for an impressive .988 fielding percentage.
This past season, Grant was named to the All-Panhandle Conference first team. In addition, she helped lead Tallahassee to a FCSAA second-place finish, and was named to the all-tournament team.
"Kirsten gives us much needed depth," says Navas. "She comes from a great junior college in Tallahassee Community College, and her championship experience there is just what we were looking for."
Lippard, who hails from Wilson, N.C., competed for Wilson Christian Academy and on the travel ball circuit for the Cape Fear Storm. She is a five-time NCISAA all-state selection, and was named team MVP four times at Wilson Christian.
With the Cape Fear Storm, she helped lead the team to a second place finish at the 2008 Pony Nationals, and was named to the all-tournament team three teams over the years.
"Sarah will help us behind the plate and in the outfield," says Navas. "She has been actively involved in our program through the years by attending camps and clinics, and we are happy to welcome her to our team."
Grant and Lippard join Renada Davis, Charlotte Foster, Emily Weiman and Liz Williamson as the Pack's newcomers for the 2012 season.
