STILLWATER, Okla. - NC State men's golfer Albin Choi has been selected to the All-Freshman Team by the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation.
Choi, from Toronto, Ontario, was undoubtably one of the best freshman in the nation this year. He was unanimously named ACC Freshman of the Year after leading the league in scoring average.
He finished his first campaign with the Wolfpack yesterday at the NCAA Championship. His 71.5 scoring average is the fourth lowest in school history.
He won two events in a span of six days in the fall, and recorded a runner-up finish in the spring at the RIver Landing Intercollegiate when he shot a 54-hole score of 13-under 203, tying for the second lowest score at NC State.
He finished in the top 25 in the first 12 events of the year. That included seven top-10's and 10 top-20's.
He shot 66 on four different occasions this season, and 37 of his 38 rounds counted towards the team total in 2010-11.
Patrick Cantlay of UCLA was named the recipient of the Phil Mickelson Award as the most outstanding freshman in Division I golf.
San Diego State's Todd Baek, Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas, Choi and Cory Whitsett of Alabama joined Cantlay on the All-Freshmen Team.
