Iyevbele Advances to Finals at USA Outdoors

EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman All-American Kenyetta Iyevbele of Charlotte posted the fastest time of the day in the preliminaries of the junior women's 800-meter race at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships here Friday afternoon to secure a spot in Saturday's finals.
Two weeks ago, Iyevbele set the NC State record during the preliminaries of the NCAA Outdoor Championships two weeks ago with a time of 2:04.83 and finished seventh in the finals to become NC State's first true freshman female All-American since 1997. Friday, she posted a Heat 1-winning time of 2:08.34, nosing out Samantha Levin of the Gateway City United Track Club for the win.
She is one of eight runners who qualified for Saturday's 8 p.m. (EST) finals.
In other events, sophomore Ryan Hill finished eighth in the men's senior 5,000-meter run, posting a time of 13:47.59. Former Wolfpack runner and current volunteer assistant Stephen Furst was 11th with a time of 13:54.54.
Freshman Matt Schick of Raleigh competed in the junior men's 1,500-meters, finishing 26th overall with a time of 4:02.84.
In addition to Iyevbele's appearance in the finals, freshman Jule Rich of Cumberland, Va., will compete in the junior men's discus (1 p.m., EST) on Saturday, while freshman Bryan Spreitzer of Cary, N.C., will compete in the junior men's 5,000 meters (11 p.m., EST).
