Pack Women Excel at Duke Twilight Meet

DURHAM, N.C. - NC State jumpers Danielle Adams and Lacey Shuman posted their best marks of the season in the women's high jump Sunday evening at the Duke Twilight Meet at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Adams, a sophomore from Jacksonville, N.C., won the event with a jump of 5-feet, 7-inches. Shuman, a freshman from Timonium, Md., was third with a jump of 5-feet, 5-inches.
Freshman Kenyetta Iyevbele of Charlotte blazed to a career-best mark of 2:07.89 in the 800-meter run, which ranks fourth in school history in the event. Junior teammate Tiayonna Blackmon of Rock Hill, S.C., ran the fifth fastest time in school history, finishing third with a time of 2:08.12. Junior Marika Walker was seventh and junior Brittany View was eighth.
The Wolfpack performed well in several other field events, as a trio of men took 1-2-3 in the long jump at day-long meet. For the second consecutive day, senior Lamont Savage of Salisbury won the event, with a mark of 23-feet, 7 ½-inches. Junior Emmanuel Davis of Cameron, N.C., was second at 23-feet, 1 ¾-inches and sophomore Kris Kornegay-Gober of Washington, D.C., was third at 22-feet, 9 ¼-inches. They all competed Saturday at the Dick Taylor Tar Heel Relays in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Junior Travis Weston of Fayetteville, N.C., won the men's triple jump with a mark of 47-feet, 11 1/4-inches in his best performance in the event of the season.
In the men's discus, freshman Jule Rich of Cumberland, Va., was second in the even while competing as an unattached participant. He had the team's longest throw of the season, with a mark of 171-feet, 6-inches. Redshirt freshman Nathaniel Williams was third, with a throw of 171-feet, 2-inches. Sophomore Grant Pearce was eighth.
Rich was also fourth in the men's shot put.
In the running events, junior Gregory Dame of Winston-Salem was fifth in the men's 800 meter race with a time of 1:52.66. Senior A'Tolani Akinkuotu of Greenville, N.C., was seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.72 seconds. Sophomore James Robinson of Raleigh was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Seven NC State freshmen ran in the men's 1,500-meter run as unattached participants. Freshman Bryan Spreitzer of Cary led the way by finishing eighth in a time of 3:54.39.
For the Wolfpack women, freshman Tremanisha Taylor of Henderson, N.C., also competing as an unattached athlete, won the women's discus with a season-best throw of 162-feet, 11-inches. Freshman Kortney Pearce was sixth. Taylor was also second in the women's shot put with a throw of 41-feet, 8 ¾-inches.
Also for the Wolfpack women, senior Kara McKenna of Sloatsburg, N.Y., won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:36.54.
Sophomore Jazueline Daniels of Kernersville, N.C., was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-feet, 4 ¾-inches, just behind former NC State athlete and current volunteer coach Demiracle Washington, who competed as an unattached athlete. She posted a mark of 39-feet, 8-inches.
Select members of the Wolfpack men's and women's teams will participate next weekend at the Carolina Qualifier in Chapel Hill, N.C.
