
Wolfpack Advances 3 at NCAA East Day 1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three NC State track and field athletes will advance to their next round of action in the NCAA Outdoor East Region preliminary track and field meet.
For junior Andie Cozzarelli, who ran a career-best time of 33:51.89 to finish 10th overall in the 10,000 meters, that means a trip to Des Moines, Iowa, on June 9-11 for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
For sophomore sprinter T.J. Graham of Raleigh and freshman mid-distance runner Kenyetta Iyevbele of Charlotte that means advancing to the semifinals of their events, which will be held on Friday.
Graham finished 21st overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.47 seconds.
Iyevbele was 13th in the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 2:07.41.
For Cozzarelli, this will be her first trip to the NCAA Championships. Not only was her mark the best of her career, it ranks in the top 10 in school history.
Only the top 12 finishers in each event advances to the NCAA Championships.
Among other competitors for the Wolfpack men, junior Adam Henken of Carpathin, Va., was 15th in the 10,000 meters at 29:34.86, sophomore Kris Kornegay-Gober of Washington, D.C., was 15th in the high jump at 6-feet, 11-inches, senior Lamont Savage of Salisbury, N.C., was 16th in the long jump with a mark of 24-feet, 1 ½-inches and junior Gregory Dame of Winston-Salem, N.C., was 28th in the 1,500-meter run at 3:51.14.
For the Wolfpack women, junior Tiayonna Blackmon of Rock Hill, S.C., was 36th in the 800-meters and sophomore Karimah Shepherd of Chesapeake, Va., was 32nd in the long jump.
The Wolfpack continues competition at the NCAA East Region preliminary on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the semifinals in the 100 and 800, the Wolfpack will have junior Brian Himelright, Erin Mercer and Kara McKenna competing in the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 4X100-meter relay preliminary.
