RALEIGH, N.C. – On the last weekend of college track and field’s regular season, select members of the NC State men’s and women’s track teams will participate in four different meets this weekend, as they attempt to attain or improve their marks for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, held on May 26-28 in Bloomington, Ind.
Both junior Greg Dame of Winston-Salem and Bobby Moldovan of Fort Wayne, Ind., were late additions to Thursday night’s Virginia Tech/Roanoke College Twilight Meet in Roanoke, Va. Dame finished seventh in the 1,500-meter race, posting his fastest time of the season at 4:47.41. Moldovan was 17th in the race at 4:07.65.
Friday and Saturday, select Wolfpack sprinters and jumpers will participate in the Clemson Last Chance Qualifier in Clemson, S.C. Results will be posted on GoPack.com.
Senior A’Tolani Akinkuotu of Greenville, N.C., and junior Tobias Palmer of Pittsboro, N.C., will run in the 100-meter dash and junior James Robinson will run in the 400-meter hurdles. Sophomores Danielle Adams of Jacksonville, N.C., and Lacey Shuman of Timonium, Md., will participate in the women’s high jump, sophomore Kris Kornegay-Gober of Washington, D.C., in the men’s high jump. Junior Travis Weston of Fayetteville and junior Kwame Boatwright of Durham and sophomore Jazueline Daniels of Kernersville, N.C., will participate in the triple jump.
Saturday night, in a meet that was rearranged to accommodate North Carolina's participation in the NCAA Lacrosse Championship, UNC will host its Kent Taylor-Texas Roadhouse Carolina Invitational meet at the Irwin Belk Track at Fetzer Field, beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The men’s 1,500 meter race, in addition to Dame and Moldovan, will include All-American sophomore Ryan Hill of Hickory, N.C., redshirt freshman Andrew Colley of Williamsburg, Va., junior Gregory Dame of Winston-Salem, N.C., sophomore Brian Himelright of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and sophomore Patrick Campbell of Mooresville, N.C.
Hill, a three-time All-American in cross country and track, has the nation's fifth best time in the 5,000 meters and will likely also qualify in the 1,500 meters and the 10,000 meters. Hill set the school record in the 5K at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., in April, with a time of 13:31.67.
