CLEMSON, S.C. - All five of NC State's participants in Friday night's Clemson Final Qualifier did what they could to improve their chances of qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet in two weeks by posting their best marks of the season in their respective events.
Wolfpack sophomore Karimah Shepherd of Chesapeake, Va., had her best showing of the season in the long jump with a mark of 20-feet, 4 ½-inches. She finished second in the event at the meet, which was held at Clemson's Rock Norman Track.
The Wolfpack men's long jumpers, fifth-year senior Lamont Savage of Salisbury, N.C., and junior Emmanuel Davis of Cameron, N.C., also had their best marks of the season. Savage finished sixth in the event at 24-feet,7-inches, while Davis was eighth at 24-feet, 3 ½-inches.
In the 100-meter dash preliminaries, fifth-year senior A'Tolani Akinkuotu of Greenville, N.C., tied for ninth with a season-best time of 10.57 seconds and qualified for Saturday's final, while junior Tobias Palmer posted a time of 10.72 seconds to finish 14th in the event.
The top 48 individuals and top 24 relay teams in each region will qualify for the postseason, hoping to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
Select Wolfpack student-athletes will participate in the Saturday's second day of the Clemson Final Qualifier, while a large contingent of distance runners will participate in Saturday's late-night Dick Taylor Texas Roadhouse Carolina Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
There are no live results available for the two events, but full results will be posted on GoPack.com shortly after all events have been completed.
