CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
NC State legend Cullen Jones won a 50 freestyle swim-off last night to secure the last roster spot on the U.S. team for the upcoming World Championships in Shanghai. Jones used a time of 22.24 seconds to top Josh Schneider's 22.28 seconds, punching his ticket to the global event.
Jones' time in the competition ranks in the top-15 in the world this year.
A 2006 NCAA national champion and 2008 U.S. Olympic gold medalist, Jones was ranked first on a list of the top-10 "good guys in sports" by The Good Men Project Magazine this past February. In 2007 he won a gold medal in 4x100 freestyle relay at the World Championships while taking silver in the 50 freestyle.
As a senior at NC State, Jones was the ACC Swim Meet MVP and a U.S. National Champion in addition to collecting an NCAA title in the 50 freestyle.
