RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State will host North Carolina this weekend in softball action at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Stadium in a three-game ACC series. Play is slated to begin Saturday, April 9 at 1 and 3 p.m., and will conclude Sunday, April 10 at noon.
The Wolfpack enters the weekend with a 14-11 record versus UNC all-time since the series began in 2004 with the inception of the NC State program. Last season, the Pack took two of three games from then-No. 19 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., before falling to the Tar Heels in the ACC Championships.
NC State (17-17) looks to get on track in the Atlantic Coast Conference against UNC after having dropped the past three conference series' to Florida State, Georgia Tech and Boston College. In this week's action, the Pack swept Charlotte in a non-conference doubleheader, giving head coach Lisa Navas her 600th career win. This season, NC State holds an 8-3 record at home.
Alyssa Allbritten leads the Wolfpack at the plate with 38 hits, six doubles and 24 RBI, as well as a .358 batting average. Bethaney Wells paces the Pack in homeruns, having knocked five round-trippers in the campaign.
Freshman pitcher Kayla Cox boasts the top ERA (3.47) and number of wins (8) on the NC State squad.
North Carolina (24-14) took two of three games against Virginia a week ago in ACC play, but fell to South Carolina on Wednesday, April 6. Kelli Wheeler leads the Tar Heels offensively with a .444 average, and freshman hurler Lori Spingola sports a 1.69 ERA in the circle, tops on the squad.
Following the weekend series against the Tar Heels, NC State returns to action against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. on Wednesday April 13 at 4 and 6 p.m.
