Pack Takes On River Landing This Weekend

No. 23 NC State will compete at the River Landing Intercollegiate this Friday and Saturday, April 8-9 at the par 72, 6,997-yard layout in Wallace, N.C.
The event, hosted by East Carolina, will feature 14 teams, including the nationally-ranked Wolfpack and No. 19 Virginia. The others include East Carolina, UNC Wilmington, Liberty, Memphis, Lamar, Maryland, Winthrop, Jacksonville, Old Dominion, St. John’s, Seton Hall and USC-Upstate.
The two-event tournament will feature 36 holes on Friday, and a final 18 holes on Saturday.
Last time out, sophomore Mitchell Sutton won his first collegiate tournament at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, S.C. For his efforts, he was named ACC Men's Co-Golfer for the Month of March.
The Wolfpack remains among the elite teams in the nation - ranking No. 20 by Golweek/Sagarin, No. 22 by Golfstat and 23rd in the coaches poll.
NC State ranks fourth and sixth, respectively, in par 3 and par 4 scoring according to Golfstat. Only Oklahoma can lay claim to being ranked in the top 10 in both categories along with the Pack.
Leading the way is freshman Albin Choi, who stands third overall in individual par 3 scoring at 2.99. The first-year dynamo is also 13th overall in subpar strokes per round. He ranks 38th overall in the Golfstat Cup.
Choi leads the ACC with a 71.2 stroke average, while Sutton is eighth in the league with a 71.8 18-hole average. Senior Brandon Detweiler comes in 14th with a 72.3 average.

Next weekend NC State will host the Wolfpack Spring Open on April 16-17 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. 18 holes will be played on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
