RALEIGH, N.C. - In response to the tornadoes that touched down in central and eastern North Carolina on April 16, NC State softball will be setting up collection bins throughout its series with Virginia this weekend, April 30 through May 1.
Fans are encouraged to bring household goods and non-perishable food items to benefit the tornado victims from our area.
All items received will be directly used to help a family friend of assistant coach Leigh Ann Genetti whose home outside of Fayetteville, N.C. was demolished by the deadly storm. Extra items will be donated to the Red Cross to aid in recovery efforts.
"We were in Maryland when the tornadoes hit Raleigh," says head coach Lisa Navas. "It was tough because though we were away, our hearts were with those affected by the storms at home. Even our manager, Luke Mitchell, was affected. Since we're nearing the end of our season, it will be almost impossible to physically help these people, but we felt like it was important to help as a program to do something. We appreciate in advance anyone who drops items off at baseball or softball, and are also thankful that baseball head coach Elliot Avent are joining with us in these efforts. Thank you, Wolfpack family."
Collection bins will be set up at the entrance to Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. Fans attending the Pack's three-game series with Virginia are encouraged to donate new or gently used household goods and non-perishable food items for those in our area affected by the powerful storms.
Action is slated to begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, and will conclude Sunday with a single game at noon. The Wolfpack will be honoring its four seniors, Alicia Abbott, Alyssa Allbritten, Bridget Desbois and Alyssa Ishibashi between games on Saturday.
