Final Results
NEW LONDON, N.C. – No. 25 NC State finished sixth at the 2011 ACC Men’s Golf Championship at Old North State Club. Albin Choi and Mitchell Sutton tied for 13th to lead the Wolfpack.
The Wolfpack fired a final round team score of 2-over 290 Sunday to finish the 54-hole event at 8-over 872.
Choi had a rather uneventful trek around the course today with an even-par 72 to finish at 1-under 215 for the championship. He made two birdies and two bogeys, and played the final nine at 1-under with eight pars and a birdie at No. 11.
Sutton fired a second-straight 1-under 71 that featured three birdies against two bogeys to also finish at 1-under 215.
Senior Brandon Detweiler finished tied for 33rd after Sunday’s 3-over 75 left him at 7-over 223 for the championship. He was at 1-under through 13 holes, but ran into trouble with a three-hole stretch that saw the Akron, Pa., native play five over from hole 14-16.
Junior Chad Day got off to an electric start with birdies at Nos. 1 and 2 and moved to 3-under after a birdie at 8. Three bogeys left him at even-par 72 for the day. He finished his first ACC Championship tied for 33rd at 7-over 223.
Junior Mark McMillen had a tough go on the back nine that left him at 6-over 78 for his final round. He finished 48th for the tournament at 14-over 230.
Sixth-ranked Georgia Tech won wire-to-wire with a dominating score of 33-under 831, 20 shots ahead of No. 16 Duke. Clemson finished 10 shots behind the Blue Devils for third.
Georgia Tech’s Paul Haley edged teammate Kyle Scott for the individual title at 10-under 206.
NC State will now await word on a likely NCAA Regional bid that will be announced in May.
