RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (21-20) softball hits the road again on Tuesday, April 19 to battle the South Carolina Gamecocks for a non-conference matchup. The first pitch in the single game is slated for 5 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.
The Wolfpack is coming off of a successful week where the squad went 3-1, earning a midweek sweep of East Carolina on Wednesday before splitting a weather-shortened ACC series with Maryland on Sunday.
Alyssa Allbritten and Bridget Desbois lead the Pack offensively with a .328 batting average. Allbritten has notched 42 hits in the 2011 season, including seven doubles, while Desbois paces NC State with two triples in the campaign. Bethaney Wells' seven homeruns and 27 RBI are also tops for the Wolfpack.
Pitcher Kayla Cox has started 21 games in the circle for NC State and pitched a team-high 142 innings in her freshman campaign. Cox's ten wins and 3.35 ERA pace Pack hurlers, and her 187 strikeouts put her fourth among ACC pitchers this season.
South Carolina (23-21) is coming off of an impressive weekend in SEC play, where the squad took 2-of-3 from league-foe Arkansas. Lauren Lackey's .346 batting average is tops for the Gamecocks, but Samie Garcia leads the team in hits (46), total bases (64), runs (27) and at-bats (145). Pitching time has been split almost evenly between four Gamecock pitchers, but Audrey Broyles boasts the top ERA (2.83).
Following Tuesday's action, the Wolfpack will hit the road again, this time traveling to Blacksburg, Va. for a three-game ACC series with Virginia Tech. The first pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 5 p.m. on Friday, April 22, and play will conclude Saturday, April 23 at noon.
