Wolfpack Softball Heads to Maryland

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball heads to College Park, Md. this weekend for an important three-game ACC series with the Maryland Terrapins. Action is slated to begin with a doubleheader Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. and conclude Sunday, April 17 also at 1 p.m.
NC State (20-19, 2-9 ACC) looks to continue its hot play this weekend after sweeping a mid-week doubleheader from in-state foe East Carolina on Wednesday. The squad hopes to get on track in league play, having dropped the last four series' in the conference.
Alyssa Allbritten's 42 hits and .344 batting average leads the Wolfpack offensively, while Bethaney Wells' seven homeruns and 27 RBI are tops on the squad.
Freshman pitcher Kayla Cox has performed well for the Pack in 2011, posting a 3.40 ERA and a team-leading 10 wins in the circle in 136 innings pitched. In addition, Cox's 181 strikeouts ranks fourth in the ACC this season.
Maryland (27-12, 5-3 ACC) is coming off of a 5-0 week, including a league sweep of Boston College, where freshman hurler Ashley Czechner was named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week.
The Terrapin pitching staff leads the conference in ERA (1.75), a mark that also stands at No. 16 in the country. Junior Vangie Galindo's .395 batting average is top for the Terps.
