ATLANTA, Ga. -
NC State (15-15, 1-5 ACC) dropped the final game in its series with Georgia Tech (28-5, 3-0 ACC) today at Mewborn Field in Atlanta, Ga., by a score of 14-0.
Caitlin Dent went 2-for-3 with two singles in the loss, and Bethaney Wells, Landon Warren and Bridget Desbois each also notched base hits for the Pack.
Georgia Tech jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After Kayla Cox struck out Christy Jones to begin the game, she then surrendered four hits, three of which were homeruns, to the Yellow Jackets. Shannon Bear, Hope Rush and Alysha Rudnik each homered for Tech, including back-to-back shots by Rush and Rudnik.
Dent and Wells each notched singles in the second inning, but the Pack offense was unable to bring them around to score.
The Yellow Jackets posted four more runs in the second inning off of three singles and two doubles to extend their lead to 9-0.
Cox worked 1.2 innings for the Pack, surrendering nine runs off of nine hits while striking out three Georgia Tech batters.
Jade Hennig came on in the second inning in relief of Cox, and was able to hold the hot Yellow Jacket offense scoreless for that frame.
Warren laced a single in the third inning, but again the NC State offense was unable to convert the opportunity, and the score remained 9-0 after three.
Georgia Tech extended their lead in the fourth inning, pushing across five runs to make the score 14-0.
The Pack returns to action Wednesday, March 30 as it travels to Greenville, N.C. to take on ECU in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
