
Pack Tennis Comes Up Short Against #3 UNC

RALEIGH, N.C. --- Freshmen Joelle Kissell and Christy Sipes picked up singles wins, but 32nd-ranked NC State fell 5-2 to third-ranked North Carolina Wednesday in Pullen Park.
Kissell notched a decisive 6-3, 6-2 win in the fifth position over 108th-ranked Lauren McHale, the first of the day for the Pack (10-3, 1-2 ACC).
In the final match of the day, Sipes added to the Pack’s win total by outlasting Haley Hemm 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
73rd-ranked Sandhya Nagaraj came up short in the only other three-set match of the day, falling in a third-set tiebreak 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) to Jelena Durisic.
14th-ranked Zoe De Bruycker defeated 24th-rankend Sanaa Bhambri in a battle of top-25 talent, 6-2, 6-1.
61st-ranked Shinann Featherston stormed back from a 4-0 second set deficit to pick up a win over Tatiana Illova 6-3, 7-5, snapping a string of three straight singles wins for the junior.
Illova’s six match win streak came to an end earlier in the day as she and playing partner Lenka Hojckova dropped a doubles decision 8-4 to Featherston/Suarez-Malaguti.
NC State’s 19th-ranked duo of Bhambri and Nagaraj were bested 8-5 by UNC’s McHale/De Bruycker pairing.
North Carolina (14-3, 3-0 ACC) extends its winning streak to seven-straight matches with the victory.
The Pack returns to action Saturday, March 26, as it hosts 20th-ranked Georgia Tech at noon in Pullen Park.
