Second Round Results
STATESBORO, Ga. – Albin Choi and Mark McMillen combined to shoot 9-under-par on Saturday to lead No. 19 NC State at the second round of the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club.
NC State shot a team score of 10-under 278 on Saturday and is in fifth place through two rounds at 6-under 570 for the tournament. Today’s team score is the best showing for the Wolfpack in eight rounds of the spring season.
Choi shot a 5-under 67 to notch the second lowest second-round score of the day, while McMillen, a junior, tied his best collegiate round with a 4-under 68.
Choi is tied for 10th after recording seven birdies on the day. He is at 3-under 141 for the tournament.
McMillen moved up from 53rd to a tie for 27th at even-par 144. He had five birdies and just one bogey.
Mitchell Sutton fired a 2-under 70 today and is tied for 15th at 2-under 142. Sutton recorded four birdies on his round.
Brandon Detweiler and Chad Day each recorded rounds of one-over 73. Detweiler is tied for 32nd at 1-over 145, while Day is at 3-over 147 and tied for 48th.
Detweiler eagled the par-5 seventh hole, and had two birdies. Day also had three birdies for the Wolfpack.
No. 14 Auburn is atop the leaderboard at 22-under 554. The four schools in front of NC State are all ranked in the top 20 nationally.
Florida’s Bank Vongvani owns a two-shot advantage over the field at 10-under 134.
The third round and final rounds begins Sunday at 8 a.m. The Wolfpack will tee off from No. 1 between 8:45 and 9:21 a.m.
