MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Former NC State men’s golfer Paul Dickens has been named the TaylorMade – Adidas Assistant Professional of the Year. Dickens works at River Landing Golf Course in Wallace, N.C.
The Assistant Professional of the Year is awarded to the Class A-8 Assistant PGA Professional who exhibits the promise and dedication that will lead us into the coming years. A candidate for this award continually demonstrates a high level of excellence at his or her facility and service to the Section while promoting the game of golf and projecting the image of a Golf Professional.
Dickens strives to exceed expectations at River Landing CC each and every day, and every day it shows. With a tournament-focused assistant position, Dickens has managed to expand member and charity events into successful repeat business, with an eye for raising money and growing the game. Members appreciate his attention to their events and he enjoys the opportunity he has had to build lasting relationships with everyone who comes through the door. His work with junior golfers through the Wallace Rose Hill - Charity Middle School summer golf program and the rules and instructional clinics he hosts each year have helped him become a mentor to kids, and have helped grow the game in and around Wallace for the last five years.

A lot of what Dickens does is centered in the pride he takes in hosting charity golf tournaments at River Landing. This year, though the River Course was closed as they re-planted greens, and they suffered torrential downpours and flooding, River Landing managed to keep every commitment it had to the charity tournaments that were scheduled. As the liaison for each tournament and event hosted by River Landing, Dickens has built strong ties to over 20 area organization and charities, and that is something that cannot be replaced as far as Dickens is concerned.

Dickens gives much of the thanks for the career he’s been able to build at River Landing CC to his mentor Larry George, PGA. Anyone who has been around the two knows the special bond they have as professionals. He also gives credit to the members of River Landing, The Murphy Family (owners of River Landing), his family, and his wife Allison and 3-year old daughter Lainey.
Along with this award, Dickens will receive $1,500 from TaylorMade-Adidas with the intent of using the funds for educational and career enhancement. He will also receive a one-year, full staff line contract including a full set of clubs, clothing, footwear, golf balls, and gloves.

The award winners will be recognized at the 18th Annual Special Awards and Honors Ceremony on February 20, 2011 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center (S.C.).
