There will be a series of hitting and pitching clinics offered by the NC State softball program this winter, head coach Lisa Navas announced today. Four hitting dates (Mondays) and three pitching clinics (Tuesdays) will be offered throughout the month of January.
"We are excited about our 2012 winter clinics," says Navas. "These sessions give us an opportunity to work with the participants over a period of time, not just a one shot clinic. Over the years, we have seen great results with hitters and pitchers from the clinics. We think these sessions serve as a great tune up for the upcoming softball season."
Pitching instruction will take place on Jan. 10, 17 and 24. On each of these dates, there will be three separate sessions, with a limit of three pitchers per session on a first come, first serve basis. Each block will last one hour, beginning at 6 p.m. and running through 9 p.m.
Over the course of three weeks, instructors will focus on basic mechanics and a different pitch each session. On Jan. 10, the fastball will be the pitch of emphasis; On Jan. 17, the change up will be emphasized; The focus of the final session will be the drop ball.
Sessions cost $50 each, or $130 for all three.
Hitting clinics will be held on Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30. Similar to the pitching clinics, each day will contain three separate one hour sessions, beginning at 5:15 p.m. and running to 8:30 p.m, and there will be a 12 girl limit per time slot for maximal individualized instruction.
Each week, instructors will focus on a different offensive topic.
During the first session, the emphasis will be on lower body power, including the use of leg explosion for maximum offensive power. In addition, instructors will discuss the importance of visual training to maximal hitting potential.
Week two will focus on the upper body, including point of contact, body position, path of the bat, and follow through.
The third session's emphasis will be on making adjustments to pitch locations. Also, instructors will teach various drills to improve swing and give keys to hitting specific pitches. Finally, hitters registered for session four will be filmed for review during the fourth and final instructional period.
The final hitting session will put all of the previously discussed information together. Instructors will discuss drills for clinic participants to work on during softball season for constant improvement, and will go through a video analysis of the hitters who attended session three.
Each individual session costs $40, but all four sessions are $120.
