Three former softball players earned their degrees from NC State on Saturday, Dec. 17. Alicia Abbott, Alyssa Ishibashi and Alyssa Allbritten each graduated this weekend.
"I am so happy for these kids," says head coach Lisa Navas. "This is one of the greatest parts of coaching--watching their hard work pay off and them move into the next phase of life."
Abbott transferred to NC State in 2009, competing in both the 2010 and 2011 seasons for the Wolfpack. On Dec. 17, the New Lenox, Ill., native earned a degree in communications. On the field, Abbott had her best season as a senior, starting all 49 games at first base, one of only three players on the squad to start every game. She posted a .283 mark at the plate, knocking five doubles throughout the season. Defensively, she notched a .990 fielding percentage, committing only three errors in 289 chances.
Ishibashi earned her degree in history on Dec. 17. On the field, she posted strong numbers throughout her career, especially during her sophomore season in 2009. That campaign, the Valencia Calif., native batted .282 with four doubles and three home runs. As a senior, Ishibashi tied for the team lead in doubles, knocking seven in 2011.
Allbritten, who earned her degree in Criminology from NC State this weekend, leaves Raleigh as one of the best softball players to ever compete in the Red and White. She holds the number one slot of multiple career records, and stands in the top 10 of many others. In 2011, Allbritten posted a .320 batting average, second best for the Pack. She was one of three Wolfpack student-athletes to start all 49 games in the season, and was tied with Bethaney Wells for the best RBI mark on the squad (30).
Bridget Desbois, the fourth member of NC State softball's class of 2011, graduated in the spring with a degree in Biology.
The Wolfpack will open the 2012 season on Feb. 10, in Athens Ga., against Utah State at 11 am. Stay tuned to GoPack.com and the NC State Softball Facebook page for more updates as the season opener approaches.
