Volleyball Loses 3-0 At Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami survived an opening-set scare by NC State on Sunday afternoon at the James L. Knight Sports Complex and went on to win its sixth consecutive match (27-25, 25-19, 25-20).
The Wolfpack (17-11 overall, 5-10 ACC) had an all-out effort by middle blocker Margaret Salata, who matched her career-high with 19 kills and 22 pointsin just three sets. The senior from Buffalo Grove, Ill., also posted a season best .467 hitting average and four total blocks.
Junior setter Megan Cyr had 36 of the Wolfpack’s 38 assists in the match, while senior libero Kelly Wood had a team-high 13 digs, followed by Cyr with 10.
As a team, the Wolfpack had a solid .219 hitting average.
The Hurricanes (21-3, 12-3) had four players with double-digit points: Alex Johnson (12.5), Lane Carico (11.0), Emani Sims (12.0) and Ali Becker (12.5). Miami also posted a .280 attack average.
In the opening set, Miami jumped out to a 3-0 lead but could never build on it. The Wolfpack tied the set 19-19 on a kill by Salata, and the teams traded points until it reached 25-25. The Hurricanes won the set on a kill by Christine Williamson and a block at the net by Becker.
The Hurricanes opened more comfortable leads in the second and third sets, going ahead by as many as six points in both and finishing strong behind the play of Sims and Becker.
The Wolfpack returns home next weekend to host matches against Clemson on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Georgia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum. The Clemson match will be streamed live for free on GoPack.com/All-Access.
The match against the Yellow Jackets will be broadcast live as part of the ACC’s television package on the Regional Sports Network, which includes Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Florida, Comcast Sports Net Mid-Atlantic, the New England Sports Network and Fox Sports Prime Ticket.
Earlier this season, the Wolfpack dropped a 2-3 decision at Clemson and won a 3-2 contest at Georgia Tech as part of its ACC-record streak of six consecutive five-set matches.
