Raleigh, N.C. - Sophomore Nazmi Albadawinetted the game-winner in the 7th minute of overtime, as the NC State men's soccer team came away with a 2-1 win over Virginia Tech Friday night.
Albadawi now leads the Pack (6-6-2, 2-3 ACC) with six goals on the season, four coming in the last three games. He scored both of the Pack's game-winners this week.
Virginia Tech (3-9-1, 1-4 ACC) notched the first score of the game in the 30th minute from a pair of Hokie subs. Taylor Lemmon took the ball down the right wing, and fed James Shupp in the middle. Shupp's attempt was initially saved by the Pack's Fabian Otte, but still rolled into the goal at the 29:12 mark.
NC State evened the score right before halftime, scoring in the 42nd minute. Senior Zane Tharakan's long throw-in caused a scramble in the Virginia Tech penalty box, and the ball ended up deflecting off a defender and into the back of the net at the 41:39 mark.
The teams went into the half tied 1-1, with the Pack holding a 7-2 shot advantage.
The two teams would play the second half with neither adding a goal.
In the overtime, Albadawi used a sharp pass from sophomore Michael Osei and took a couple of dribbles and fired a shot into the back of the net in the 97th minute.
The Pack outshot the Hokies 16-7 for the game. Otte made three saves for NC State, while Virginia Tech's Kyle Renfro was forced to make six.
The Pack will be on the road next, traveling to Columbia, S.C., to face South Carolina in the last non-conference game of the season this Tuesday night.
