Men's Tennis Competes in ITA Carolinas Regional

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Four NC State men's tennis players will compete this weekend in the ITA Carolinas Regional championships at North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center and Duke's Sheffield Tennis Center, in the Wolfpack's final tournament of the fall.
Senior Dominic Hodgson, junior Matt Thomson, sophomore Sean Weber and freshman Austin Powell will represent the Wolfpack in the 116-player field. The tournament runs through Sunday at the two indoor tennis centers.
The tournament is a qualifier for all Division I school in North and South Carolina, with the winners advancing to the ITA National Indoor Championships, to be held Nov. 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Hodgson is seeded eighth in the singles field, while Powell is seeded 13th. Both received byes into the round of 64, which begins Friday afternoon.
In the opening round, Weber will play North Carolina's Andrew Pecht Friday at 8 a.m. in Chapel Hill. Thomson will face Davidson's Chris Mark at 11 a.m. in Chapel Hill.
The regional championships began Thursday in the doubles draw. NC State's Powell and Weber fell in their match, 8-6, to South Carolina State's Dmitry Nikitin and Peteris Vinogradovs Thursday afternoon.
Hodgson and Thomson received a first-round bye and won their second-round match against Davidson's Chris Mark and Kevin More, 8-4. They will play Duke's Torsten Wietoka and Luke Marchese on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
